At the last census of the British Virgin Islands the Catholic population hovered around 6% of the population. Our steady growth over the past 30 years and the struggle to provide our three Church facilities, St. William's, St. Ursula's and Mary Star of the Sea is a source of immense pride for every member of our Parish Family. As we look to the future we all recognize the need to provide sound Catholic education for our youth.
Our Parish has a three-prong approach to education:
Firstly. We have established an Educational Trust Fund that helps the young men and women of our Parish to realize their academic potential. The fund helps in many ways from helping provide books and other material for school to funding scholarships to the local Community College or further a field. Further information about the Educational Trust Fund and how you can help is available from Monica Allen, Trustee, at stwilliam [at] bvicatholicparish.org.
Secondly. Our second collection each week is for the Parish Building Fund. The rebuilding of St. William's and the repayment of our outstanding loans have financially drained our Parish Community. As we emerge from our debt we recognize the need to start saving so that we can be in a position to purchase suitable land that one day might be the location of our Catholic School. As a Parish we appreciate that this dream will probably take at least ten years before it comes to fruition. In the mean time we are confident that the weekly sacrifices that we make will provide the financial foundation needed to embrace the next challenge God places before us.
Finally. As we save to purchase suitable land for a future Catholic School we have dedicated ourselves to providing the best religious education possible. Through the generosity and dedication of volunteers, we provide a comprehensive religious education programme that covers every age and all the Sacraments. All weekend our three Churches are alive with classes as we take seriously the task of handing on the Faith.
